Our Purpose

We Believe That It's Time To:

Millenium Development Goals - STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT

As part of our THINK ACTION movement, students from 8th grade Humanities here at SAS Pudong have joined the Global Issues Network (GIN).
In 2008, Kimber, Vinay, Emily and Jonas attended the GIN conference in Beijing. http://www.earcos.org/gin2008/gin2.html

Students can be encouraged to think systemically about real issues while also taking action to improve the human condition. This approach involves collaboration rather than competition, where students assume leadership of their own programme. Their network should promote both face-to-face conferences and on-going communication via the latest technologies.” (EARCOS Global Issues Network)

Why Should We Get Involved?

"To tackle the underlying roots of violence and conflict, we need a massive international effort to reduce poverty and injustice, and to promote development, democracy and human rights."
Clare Short, Then UK International Development Secretary in a Speech to Labour Party Conference, Brighton UK, October 2001.

BUT - Keep this in mind
"Mr. Director General, why is it that you people from UN agencies when you come here, instead of asking us for our experience and our skills, our thoughts and our dreams, you give us lessons and advice? Why do you not come here to listen first, then give us advice based on what you heard?"
A teacher in a village in Burkina Faso to Frederico Mayor, Director General of UNESCO, during a visit he made to the country
